History
New Life United Methodist Church was organized on August 12, 1990, to serve Grant and the surrounding areas. The organizational meeting was held at the home of Anne Esslinger-Hyatt and there were ten people in attendance. After church services on November 4, 1990, members went to look at a house on Main Street in Grant as a future location for the church. The house had 2-1/2 acres of land with it. The church made an offer and it was accepted by the seller. The first meeting in the “new” building was held on December 2, 1990. There were 24 people in attendance including Albertville District Superintendent, Rev. Charles Hazel, who conducted the service. Seven members were accepted into the church, one of which was John D. Morrow, Sr. This was especially meaningful since “the church” was the house where John grew up.

On January 6, 1991, Sunday School classes began meeting. Easter Sunday, March 31, 1991, the first Easter services were held at New Life. On April 7, 1991, the Charter for New Life UMC was presented by Bishop Knox, resident Bishop of the North Alabama Conference. On July 29, 1992, the church began plans for an expansion. This future fellowship hall would serve as a sanctuary until a permanent sanctuary could be constructed. Work began on Monday, November 16, 1992. On Sunday, March 7, 1993 services were held in the new addition. It was standing room only.
The congregation continued to grow and the Building Committee launched a campaign to construct a permanent sanctuary. Groundbreaking for the new sanctuary was held on April 18, 1999. On December 31, 1999 the first service was held in the new sanctuary. A “Watch Night Service” commemorated the event. May 28, 2000 the Cornerstone & Consecration of the new building was held. Rev. Charles Hazel and Rev. Billy York conducted the services. A copy of the church history was placed behind the marble cornerstone.
On June 9, 2000 a farewell dinner was given for Rev. Beaul and Veda Hunkapiller who were leaving New Life to pursue full-time ministry. Bro. Beaul was our first Pastor, serving the church for 10 years. On June 17, 2000, we welcomed Pastor Phil & Joan Howell into our church. Work began that same summer to develop a daycare ministry at New Life. New Life Christian Academy opened August 1, 2001, and currently enrolls over 80 children, ranging in ages from 6 weeks to 6th grade.
In June of 2001, our church was moved to full-time status by action of the North Alabama conference. In June of 2008, we bid farewell to Pastor Phil Howell as Rev. Sherill Clontz was appointed as our new minister, joined by her husband Craig and their children Steven, Phillip, and Laura.
In January 2011, Rev. Mike Robinson became pastor of New Life. Our church continues to be blessed with adults, youth, children, and babies. And New Life continues to be a place where love abounds and Christ is found!
